The Stones Will Cry Out
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:39-40
During the last few months, Rick and Dafna have spent much time in Poland with many friends working on the building. A great deal of progress has been made. Most recently, friends from Germany have given freely of their time to begin constructing the six pillars of stones – the memorial to the six million who perished in the Holocaust.
The stones that Rick used in Arad are volcanic stones that are scattered everywhere in the Negev Desert. One of the questions in Rick’s mind was to discover what stones would be used in Birkenau. Remarkably, a neighbor to the building there is the owner of a construction company. He had piles of dolomite stones that he freely gave to Rick.
Before too long all the pillars were being put in place. But there is something else of great significance. On previous visits, Rick and Dafna had travelled to the six extermination camps, all of which were situated in Poland (see the map below which is taken from: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/map-of-extermination-camps-in-poland). The infamous names are Treblinka, Majdanek, Chełmno, Belzec and Sobibor as well as Auschwitz.
From the surrounding countryside around these camps, although not in the camps themselves, Rick and Dafna collected stones in each of these regions. These stones are also being incorporated into the pillars among the dolomite. Thus, each of the six pillars will also represent one of these killing camps. The stones will cry out, and as in the days of Joshua:
These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever. Joshua 4:7
The dolomite stones will need to be sealed because, unlike the volcanic stones found in the Negev, dolomite is not impervious to water. However, at the very moment that Rick was discussing this problem with the German friends in Birkenau, a professional expert came to visit the Fountain in Arad. As we spoke there about dolomite, he immediately suggested the type of sealant that was required. The Lord has everything in hand.
You see, the stones must cry out. Water will slowly trickle over these stones and this water represents the cry of Jeremiah:
Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for the slain of my people. Jeremiah 9:1
